Can you recommend good sites in this area? We might be able to squeeze a locality or two in to the agenda, if you think it's worth it.

We have been trying to get some different places to visit in 2014, as well as re-visiting two or three old favourites (King's Dyke, Walton-on-the-Naze and Herne Bay).
Somerset can be tricky with tidal considerations to take account of and the similarity of many sites. Localities that sometimes appear to be great, are actually not in reality. For example, some of the UK Fossils recommended sites haven't been visited for some years and may not be productive for a larger group, who expect to find at least something!! Very Happy Field sites in Somerset (e.g. Ilminster, site of Hildoceras ammonites) can be very hit and miss, totally reliant on permissions on private land and crops. Again, not always great for a larger group.

Suggestions always welcome though! In the meantime, Watchet is as close as it gets to you next year, so hope you can get along.

I live in gloucestershire and am over and hour away from Aust. I live near the lakes though (cotswold lakes) but they rarely have hunts now Sad
I should be able to go in and around devon, somerset and a bit further with luck soon though. Just can't go to any of the hunts near london side.
I should be at the Aust hunt in november this year, but yeah i'm really looking forward to going to new sites soon Smile

Craig and I are looking into the Cotswolds Water Park.
Early days and only enquiries at the moment but it's been earmarked! Wink

Just as a word of note they had to cancel the hunt in march/april because they hadn't hit the fossil bed where they were trying to hunt, But I will try keep an ear out here about it if you want?
