Probably not, most Americans just think every disaster must be the result of an impact. That's why the single impact theory is still so big for the K/P extinction.

Not really an "Americans" Thing... The double impact KT theory has not been widely publisised and you would find that most people are not aware of it.... Also as for meteors or comets exploding in the atmosphere super heating millions of square miles is heavily contested too.

But the Dekkan Traps (sp?) don't get any press either.. And it's not just K/P.. For some reason the guys o'er the pond just like the destructive drama of the impact theory.. It was mentioned for the Great Dying and a couple of other unrelated things as well..

Mentioned yes. This is not a BBC story it is just suggesting an idea, look at the story bout the Aussies... they are just saying "we do not have the material, its an idea we have had can you look at the material again please".... however that theory i like more than this one I posted. At the end of the day I think that the artefacts on that scale would or could pick up a considerable amount of the spheroids and disturb enough to conclude the idea sceptical, but the question remains as to what happened.
