bracklesham bay bumblings

me and my 11 year old daughter are off to bracklesham bay and she is desperate to find some sharks teeth on her first proper trip any tips on how and where to look thanks

You will find alot of well preserved bivalves at bracklesham bay, as well as fossil teeth and vertabre of small fish and sharks but all you have to do is look in the sand. I would suggest taking a seive to get fossils easly. enjoy the trip

Look for small jet-black pieces of cuboid and triangular rocks. The cuboid peices have a pattern on them of lines going straight up or diagonally upwards. These are the teeth of rays. They are more common than shark teeth (the small triangles). I would advise either downloading Issue 26 of deposits(in ukge, back issues) or getting fossil collecting in bracklesham and selsey.

If you see any coin shaped gray, thin rocks pick them up because they are probably nummlites, the biggest microfossil I know of. Breaking them open across shows the beautiful pattern inside.

thanks for your advice i found loads of smelly bi valves 9and i mean smelly, they are in the garden as they make my house stink!) i didnt find any sharks teeth but my daughter found a small one and to say she was thrilled was an understatement! she took it to school and showed her friends and when people ask about my fossils on display in my front room sha proudly shows them "her find" bless her!
