    Hi

    Found this the other day in the chalk of Bedfordshire. Both of us were unsure what it was, never seen anything like it before. Any ideas? 70 - 90 myo.

    Usually anything this color is either pyrite, bone, fish scales or lobster.

    Need to see it with a hand lens to be fair, but i think it looks a bit lobster like.

    Can you get any closer images? What does the end look like?

    I saw Richards post on the other forum, his knowledge collecting from this level of chalk is far greater than mine(none) so i expect he will be right & they are bits of Pyritised Ammonite.

    It does look a bit like the inside of ammonite chambers to me, but beyond that I couldn't guess

    You are right - its a little phosphatic preserved ammo chamber - you can even find ones that are molds of whole small ammonites in the chalk at that level but they tend to be incomplete.
